Position: Oracle DBA Track Lead

Location: New York, NY

Duration: 6 Months +

 

Oracle DBA, experience in MS SQL will be big plus

 

Description:

 

Looking for an Oracle DBA lead to provide technical management and guidance to Database team as well as perform tasks needed to maintain Database systems. Track lead is responsible for the overall design, implementation, management, and support of all enterprise-wide database system, resources, services, and application

An Oracle DBA provides T with production support, system implementation and technical sizing and design for the Oracle Databases supporting all our application systems. This position focuses on efficiently, effectively and proactively maintaining and improving the performance and availability of key Oracle Databases. The administrator must have strong and comprehensive Oracle Database administration skills coupled with a good and practical knowledge of the Microsoft SQL Server product. The administrator must also possess excellent interpersonal skills and have a good background in working with SAP and non-SAP application developers.

 

Responsibilities & Required Skills :

 

• Provide ongoing support and enhancements on a range of Oracle Databases used by enterprise systems.
• Provide project and enhancements work on a range of new and existing Oracle Databases implemented.
• Provide Database support for the installation of new application software that uses Oracle Databases.
• Perform routine administration and performance monitoring activities to ensure optimal operation of the Oracle Databases
• Provide advice and guidance where necessary to DBA's ,  development team and SAP team
• Provide support out of normal office hours on a pre-planned basis and at short notice in emergency situations.
• Complete tickets assigned and other requests within a mutually agreed upon time.
• Provide an effective service monitoring and tuning the performances of the various Oracle based systems ensuring that the databases perform within set service levels
• Proactively monitor applications and provide a regular report to management  highlighting where changes to the application will benefit performance for example through the provision of new indexes.
• Design, implement, operate, monitor and amend data backup and fault tolerant strategies appropriate to each of the Oracle Database systems.
• When required, be able to restore data in the various Oracle systems to the maximum amount possible given the backup strategy chosen.
• An ability and willingness to train/inform developers and server administrators when appropriate, on good database design.
• Provide active technical support where appropriate for the user community, systems administrators, business/tech analysts and developers.
• Keep accurate records and publish metrics on database and application server performance and availability both internally and to the wider IS / User community.
• Set, monitor and amend appropriate development standards relating to maintaining and improving performance.
• Proactively monitor and report on system resources being consumed for example disk space. Provide early warning of resource contentions and shortages and recommendations for changes to enable server teams to review and update server facilities in a timely manner.
• Perform periodic upgrades to Oracle Database Software.
• Identify problem trends and proactively take action to reduce re-occurring incidents.
• Scheduling and managing data reorganizations as required
• Good working knowledge on MS SQL
