Job Description

The Data Architect will join the Database Development Team, which is responsible for the design and overall quality of Costco's Enterprise and Application Data Models.  While meeting the database needs of current projects, this team is also responsible for supporting the development and execution of a long term strategy to modernize the transactional and analytical databases underlying Costco's legacy systems.

 

Daily tasks and responsibilities:

•     Apply Enterprise and Solution Architecture decisions to Data Architecture frameworks and models

•     Apply data modeling techniques and standards to I.S. solutions

•     Collaborate with Data Modelers for internal data model reviews, data model management and version control

•     Conduct data model reviews with project team members

•     Participate in information meta-data strategy definition

•     Collaborate with Data Management Team - Data Analysts to establish data quality baseline snapshots

•     Collaborate with Data Management Team - Data Stewards for data quality issues

•     Create data source catalogue

•     Perform data source gap analysis

•     Define data migration specification

•     Design Conceptual data model

•     Design Logical data model

•     Design Physical data model

•     Design Canonical data model

•     Design database transaction structures

•     Design data warehouse & data mart structures

•     Identify data requirements and related KPIs, Metrics

•     Collaborate with application and services teams to design databases which fully meet business and technical requirements

•     Maintain expertise and proficiency in the various application areas

•     Develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of cross system interactions and relationships in order to develop an enterprise view of Costco's data needs

•     Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and standards

 

Overall Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

•     Thorough knowledge of multi-platform database commands

•     Knowledge and/or experience with data modeling and design is essential (5 years minimum)

•     Logical data modeling, knowledge of entity relationships

•     Knowledge of development lifecycle

•     Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization

•     Analytical skills

•     Advise on Database Performance/Tuning/Measurement

•     Advise on User Access & Manipulation
