Data Modeler / Data Architect
Location: Columbus, OH

Duration: Long Term

 

The Senior Data Architect is responsible for Enterprise Data Architecture, which includes, but is not restricted to, the following areas:  data architecture, data modeling and data governance for the enterprise.  The data architect advises the enterprise on data architecture, relational and dimensional database design and modeling, master data management, efficient SQL development, and best practices for the IT data development staff as it relates to data management.  The position provides thought leadership and strategic direction in helping IT development staff develop comprehensive and robust data models which will scale and support the enterprise's future growth.  The architect must communicate clearly and effectively, collaborating with IT development in order to deliver timely and effective solutions. The Senior Data Architect is expected to be creative and provide lateral thinking, all the while being proactive in finding solutions to the enterprises data needs.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Data Modeling

•              Develops and maintains data models (logical and physical) for operational and analytical systems in the Enterprise

•              Maintains the model repository and ensures the models are current

•              Creates and executes DDL in development environments for any new and/or revised database objects

•              Works closely and communicates effectively with the IT development staff on providing the best data design solutions for their needs

•              Effectively communicates and educates the IT staff on best practices regarding data design and modeling

•              >From requirements and source data, must possess the ability to build data models from scratch to meet requirements and follow best practices

Data Governance

•              Works with leadership to define the enterprise's data governance standards

•              Governs adherence to data standards

•              Develops and enhances the processes necessary for effective data governance within the enterprise

•              Reviews and Approves requests pertaining to database objects in a timely manner, including new and revised models (complete application data structures), tables, views (regular or materialized), columns, indexes, relationships and keys

•              Effectively communicates and educates the IT staff on best practices regarding data governance

•              Develop and maintain an in depth understanding of the database architecture and the general application functionality used to assist with future data design

•              Provide a high level of customer satisfaction via effective solution delivery

Qualifications

  

•              BS in Computer Science or related field

•              5+ years experience in data design, data architecture and data modeling (both transactional and analytic)

•              3+ years experience in Relational and Dimensional data design and modeling in a large multi-platform data environment

•              Experience writing and optimizing complex SQL code

•              Experience with ERWIN modeling tool and associated repository

•              Experience with Oracle/SQL Server in support of the transactional systems modeling is preferred

•              Experience with Netezza in support of the data warehouse modeling is preferred

•              Must have good written and verbal communication skills, and have experience interfacing directly with program development and management personnel
