Role: DB2 DBA Consultant
Duration: 6months+
Qualifications :
This is a technical position for a senior level DB2 DBA on MVS z/OS with knowledge of DB2 Queue replication. The DBA in this position will be responsible for converting a VSAM based application into a DB2 based application.
This DBA will be responsible for design, development and administration of large scale (500GB - 2TB in size) Operational, OLTP and Analytical data structures on DB2
- Included within those responsibilities are the areas of data access, delivery and recovery technologies
Position Qualifications:
- 8+ years of relevant work experience.
- Good understanding and hands on experience in logical data modeling and *Operational Data Store* concepts.
- Indepth experience in deriving optimized physical data models from the logical data model provided.
- In-depth experience in security administration using roles and profiles mechanism.
- Hands on experience on performance tuning of complex SQLs.
- Experience with DB2 Stored Procedures.
- In-depth knowledge of DB2 utilities such as LOAD, UNLOAD, RUNSTAT, REORG, COPY, COPYTOCOPY, MERGECOPY, MODIFY and SPUFI.
- Solid understanding of DB2 client tools such as DB2 Connect, DB Visualizer.
- Hands on experience in using DB2 for z/OS databases.
- Hands on experience in using MS Office products and Windows XP or higher version of OS.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills.
- IBM Mainframe background required with proficiency in Batch COBOL, Command-level COBOL, CICS, MVS and JCL.
- Knowledge and use of third party software support products such as: XPEDITER, FILEAID, SYNCSORT, CONNECT-DIRECT(NDM), OMEGAMON and MS Office.
- Strong functional analysis and written skills to produce business and system requirements and high level design documents.
- Detailed design validation and working closely with development, testing and architecture to ensure proper interpretation of all system and functional designs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required along with a strong technical aptitude.
- Familiarity with SDLC methodologies and tools.
Duties include but not limited to:
- Logical data modeling, physical database design, implementation and testing of large scale database structures.
- Map business requirements into system requirements and appropriate data models
- Dealing with application database design, implementation and Capacity planning
- Translate logical data models into effective and efficient database designs for a high online-transaction oriented and heavy batch oriented system.
- Performance monitoring and tuning including SQL optimization and tuning.
- DB2 z/OS Native tools such as QUIESCE, RUNSTATS, and MODIFY DELETE.
- Shell and Batch scripting.
- Software installs and upgrades.
- Importing and integrating data from various sources
- Database tuning, partitioning, back up and recovery on large application databases
- Query and Server optimization
- Configuring and Installing new application release
- Dealing with application disaster recovery, high availability in a geo-redundant environment
- Evaluate DB2 features and DB2 related products
- Monitor and benchmark application database performance.
- Develop and maintain database documentation sufficient to implement and support any developed solution.
- Encryption of specific columns
- DB2 Queue replication, with knowledge of conflict resolution
- Security features - RACF
This is a highly technical role that requires an individual who has the ability to think critically and logically, a self-starter who can self-motivate and self-instruct with a minimum of direct oversight as a member of a distributed workgroup. The individual will be involved in projects from their inception and will be responsible for Unit Testing, occasional QA, Production and Post-Production phases. During these project phases, the DBA will interface with technical teams, business teams, functional teams, and others. This job requires good communication skills – both written and oral -- and the ability to work under tight dead lines in a fast-paced environment.
The DBA needs to be able to provide phased conversion strategies, test, integrate, troubleshoot, debug and implement DB2 based application components using detailed test plans, procedures, and design documents for complex to simple systems. Need to be able to work closely with information architects, business customers, operations support personnel, and other project members to execute technical design and resolve production issues. Need to be able to convert high-level application designs and system flows into application solutions for critical operations, support systems and databases. Need to have a very good understanding of on-line, batch, real-time customer care systems and applications. The solution uses DB2 Q Replication, CICS/VT. Good knowledge of MQ and the implementation of IBM Q Replication is a must. This person needs to work with a team that does not have a good understanding of DB2 and need to mentor and guide the team to a successful DB2 implementation.
