Position: BI/DW Cognos Report Developer

Location: Portland, OR

Duration: 9-12 Months

 

Description:

 

As a member of the UTi Data Architecture & Reporting (DAR) team, the BI/DW Cognos Report Developer designs, develops, implements and supports enterprise wide reporting solutions. This position works closely with the end users, data modeler/architects, Data analysts, and functional teams to design business intelligence and operational reporting solutions.  These include consolidating the disparate data in different systems into a single framework model.  The incumbent also works with other reporting groups to show them the best practices for their own solutions that help end users access and analyze data in the data warehouse, data mart or operational systems.

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

 

·         Perform data analysis and develop reporting specs

·         Designing and implementing OLAP cubes, dashboards and scorecards, reports, Cognos framework models and report definitions

·         Analyzing end user requirements and, based on findings; designing report mock-ups specifications and production reports

·         Assist business users with Cognos Ad-Hoc reporting

·         Assisting in troubleshooting post-production performance issues with end user report queries

·         Working with various IT teams to show them the best practices for their own solutions that help end users access and analyze data in the data warehouse, data mart or operational systems

·         Performs other related reporting duties as required or assigned

·         Mentor & train other report developers and business users

 

Required Skills:

 

·         Experience on MS SQL Server Database

·         Experience in Logistics domain

·         Experience in Agile Development methodology

·         6-8 years of experience in Business Intelligence & reporting preferably Cognos

·         In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with the Cognos reporting tool suite (Report Studio, Analysis Studio, Framework Manager, event studio, Metrics Studio, Cognos cubes, Cognos SDK)

·         3+ years of experience in SQL Server Stored Procedure and Advanced SQL query building

·         Good understanding of Inmon & Kimball Methodologies

·         Experience working with relational databases to facilitate programming software

·         Working knowledge of Application Servers and Web servers

·         Knowledge of XML and HTML

·         Strong communication & presentation skills with ability to interact at all levels and excellent technical specification writing skills

 

Other Qualifications:

 

·         Some experience with multiple reporting tools such as Actuate (BIRT), Oracle BI Publisher Jaspersoft (open source), Tibco (Spotfire), or MS Reporting and Excel preferred

·         Strong communication & presentation skills with ability to interact at all levels and excellent technical specification writing skills

·         Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities while working independently

·         Ability to work with cross-functional, diverse, and geographically distributed teams

·         Good personal computer and business solutions software skills

·         Analytical and problem solving skills for design, creation and testing of programs

·         Communication skills to work effectively with team members, support personnel, and clients

 

Prefered Skills:

 

·         Previous Supply Chain or Logistics industry experience

·         Cognos 10 experience

·         Cognos 10 Administration experience

·         Working with and coordinating with a global extended support team
