Role: Linux Consultant

Location: Atlanta, GA

Duration : 6+ Months Contract

 

Linux System Administrator to install, maintain and monitor multiple servers and the applications running on the servers. This includes the operating system (Linux), hardware, and application installation, monitoring and backups. This position is responsible for providing 24/7 Linux/Solaris and application support on a rotating basis. The applicant must have strong communication skills and a vast knowledge in system troubleshooting and support.

 

Mandatory Skills:

 

•           Troubleshooting threads

•           Knowledge of how to do Stack Trace

•           Perl skills – parsing reports and logs, experience with daemons

 

Position Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the complete process of infrastructure design and operations, including systems analysis and maintenance, security, network operations and support, and systems configuration.
• Infrastructure includes hardware, operation systems, database management systems, network and security.
• Conducts end-to-end plan design, controls production, and implements and monitors systems.
• Tune operating system and hardware for optimal performance
• Develop scripts for automating routine tasks.
• Monitor servers and applications for errors and performance problems.
• Develops long-term strategy for historical data retention and archival plan for storage needs; defines data retention, backup, and recovery.
• Develops, packages and automates distribution of installation executable software and related software on target machines;
• Monitors and resolves any problems that may arise from the distribution or installation
• Maintains data dictionaries and ensures integration of systems through data design.

 

Qualifications:

• BS or AS degree in Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline and generally 2-5 years of experience in a related field OR MS and generally 2-4 years of experience in related field equivalent experience.  Will consider work experience in lieu of degree. 
• Linux and/or Solaris skills (4-6 years systems administration).
• Experience in a multi-tiered, distributed and diverse infrastructure a must
• Must have experience in environments that are larger than 2000 servers.
• System level programming in Shell/Perl scripting (4-6 years)
• Fundamental networking skills and basic network troubleshooting skills (1-3 years).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with minimal direction, yet able to work in a team environment.
• A high level of experience in systems and network problem solving.
• Advanced knowledge of OS troubleshooting, kernel tweaking and system automation.
