Purpose of Job & Position
This is a technical IT position. Elements include: 1) No direct reports, 2) Heavy technical skills, 3) Heavy teamwork, 4) Heavy client/customer contact, 5) Heavy daily planning and execution, 6) Creativity and 7) Participation in interviewing process. Position reports to Sr. Manager of SAN & Mainframe Hardware Technologies, within the Information Technologies Operations Services Organization.
This is a key technical position in the Information Technologies infrastructure arena. This position will be responsible for many aspects of engineering, operation, and support of Mainframe hardware, connectivity, and backup/recovery platforms. This engineer will work closely with the Mainframe System Programming area to build, maintain, and support highly scalable, reliable, and resilient Mainframe systems.
Required Skills/Experience
· At least 3+ years of experience in Mainframe hardware installation and support (i.e. EMC Disk arrays, IBM tape libraries, IBM Z9/Z900 CPUs, McData/Cisco FICON/ESCON directors, etc.)
· In depth understanding of TSO/ISPF, z/OS IPL procedures, and JCL
· Excellent customer service skills and a proven ability to demonstrate a customer responsive approach
· Strong project management abilities, including the ability to delegate and deliver to deadlines
· Superior written, oral and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to write and present effective materials, including presentations, status reports, and technical diagrams
· Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a diverse workload
· Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships both inside and external to the Information Technologies Department
· Must be able to show technical expertise and leadership including a willingness to participate in the day-to-day needs of the organization
Desired Experience / Skill Set:
· 10+ year(s) of experience in designing, implementing, and supporting Mainframe hardware
· 5+ year(s) of experience working with key Disaster Recovery technologies including SRDF, PPRC, and TimeFinder
· Experience in REXX/CLIST programming
· Expert knowledge in CICS, IMS, DB2, z/OS, TSO/ISPF
· Familiarity with CA-Sysview and ASG-TMON
· Familiar with software development and engineering principles
Primary Responsibilities:
· Responsible for maintaining the highest levels of Mainframe availability, scalability, performance and data protection
· Plan, design, and execute on Mainframe hardware/infrastructure related projects and processes
· Define AO policies and write/ maintain REXX code which facilitates automated message response and alerts
· Review Mainframe CPU, disk, tape, & response statistics on a daily basis
· Monitor and report on Mainframe performance, capacity, and health
· Schedule, plan, execute, and support Mainframe hardware and software outages
· Create, manage, and distribute mainframe disk/tape storage to internal customers and facilitate backups and restores when necessary
· Plan, execute, and support Mainframe Disaster Recovery procedures
· Be responsible for projects and processes to facilitate Mainframe hardware lifecycle management and technology refresh efforts
Secondary Responsibilities:
Preferred Education, Training, Experience or Skills:
· Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems or related field required
· 5 year(s) experience / knowledge in Information Technology required
